Genre Research Task

Genre Research Task: Horror There are many repertoire of generic elements in the genre horror. One example is its settings, if it was a vampire horror it will be typically in a castle setting, on the other hand in a slasher film, it would be set in a low populated place like a random camp in the middle of no where (usually isolated). Also there is the generic element where in slasher films, the killers tend to kill the teens that are doing sexual activities and are sexually active. The one that tends to survive or beats the killer is often the one female main character that happens to be a virgin or isn't part of any sexual activities or is sexually active. It has the typical character types in the films, antagonist with supernatural powers and the teens or young adults always trying get in bed with the popular female.  Also, horror films tend to have the same themes, for example its always evil or some sort of revenge, like the antagonist coming back from the dead to get re...

The preferred readers are men that want to gain bodies like that of celebrities. Also the readers will be men that want a healthy life and maybe even attract people to them. However the readers could also be female, looking at male bodies but this isn't preferred since it isn't aimed towards female that want bodies like male celebrities.

This is the original upside down kiss from the spider man film. As you can see the image at the bottom is from a Shrek film where Fiona and Shrek are kissing but Shrek is upside down just like in the Spider man film.  This is an image of the riots back in 2011 in London. In this image you can see the rioters breaking into a store. You can see them in huge packs of people, wearing hoodies and covering their faces. However you don't see any people helping around to keep the place tidy or safe. You don't see people cleaning the streets up from the mess that the rioters caused.

Magazine Front Covers

Women are represented to be really thin with their cleavage and bottom being more noticeable than another other part of their body. They most likely always have some make up on them, particularly their lips and eyes. They're also going to be quite young. This magazine front cover of Kate Holmes reinforces how women are represented. As you can see, Katie is wearing make up and her cleavage is somewhat showing. This magazine front cover challenges the stereotype where almost all magazine covers consist of a white female. This cover challenges the stereotype by having a black female instead of a white female.

Stereotyping

This is a clip of terminator 2 where the main character, John Connor is doing what a typical teen does, playing games in the arcade. He represented to be a bad teen that likes to mess around and do what he wants. He speaks with slang, dresses like every typical teen back then, baggy trousers, denim and all sorts. His body language is always slouching suggesting that he's bored most of the time unless he's doing what he wants.

The three news items that i chose are the Prince Charles, train incident in Sweden and the zebra crossing story. The size of the story isn't huge at all as prince Charles broke his wrist, something that happens everywhere. However the size of the 40 people dead in the train crash is plenty big especially with the 270 being injured. Zebra crossing is definitely the smallest event here. Proximity is very close since its in England, something thats more popular in the UK than anywhere else. The train crash in Sweden isn't close at all while the zebra crossing is close being in the UK. Its negative since prince Charles broke his wrist but there are plenty other more negative stories out there. Train crash in Sweden is VERY negative, resulting in injuries and even death. The zebra crossing is negative but the least negative out of the other events.  All stories a pretty simple especially for the younger audiences and the audience for the daily mail.  The prince Charles an...

In this BBC news video, it reports about what the people of Yemen have to do in order to survive because of the war going on in Yemen. BBC has reported this even though this has nothing to do with the UK at all, showing that this news is important. It is reported in a very serious way, the reporter has a serious face and is wearing respectable clothing. The video is reported in a very simple way, every few seconds a simple sentence explaining what is happening in Yemen. The video shows the kids of Yemen and how they rummage through rubbish to find food. However, Yemen is in a civil war and the BBC have chosen not to show the war part of Yemen, no shooting or any bodies of people, even people that have been injured from the war aren't shown.
