Newspaper Analysis

The three news items that i chose are the Prince Charles, train incident in Sweden and the zebra crossing story. The size of the story isn't huge at all as prince Charles broke his wrist, something that happens everywhere. However the size of the 40 people dead in the train crash is plenty big especially with the 270 being injured. Zebra crossing is definitely the smallest event here. Proximity is very close since its in England, something thats more popular in the UK than anywhere else. The train crash in Sweden isn't close at all while the zebra crossing is close being in the UK. Its negative since prince Charles broke his wrist but there are plenty other more negative stories out there. Train crash in Sweden is VERY negative, resulting in injuries and even death. The zebra crossing is negative but the least negative out of the other events.  All stories a pretty simple especially for the younger audiences and the audience for the daily mail.  The prince Charles an...

In this BBC news video, it reports about what the people of Yemen have to do in order to survive because of the war going on in Yemen. BBC has reported this even though this has nothing to do with the UK at all, showing that this news is important. It is reported in a very serious way, the reporter has a serious face and is wearing respectable clothing. The video is reported in a very simple way, every few seconds a simple sentence explaining what is happening in Yemen. The video shows the kids of Yemen and how they rummage through rubbish to find food. However, Yemen is in a civil war and the BBC have chosen not to show the war part of Yemen, no shooting or any bodies of people, even people that have been injured from the war aren't shown.

Soap Opera Analysis

This video is from the soap opera called Coronation Street. It has many stereotypes in it, as you can see there is the typical bad teenaged student. The student comes back home earlier than she should reinforcing the stereotype where young people are known to be delinquents. Another stereotype in the show is that there is always family conflicts everywhere. The parents of the teen aged girl are constantly arguing and also seem to be getting divorced or already are divorced. There seems to be a stereotype where family's in the UK always seem to be divorced and children often have step parents. Amy which is the female that has the stereotype of being the delinquent student. Common characteristics and behaviours of this stereotype are messy dressed, crazy hairstyles, being very loud and always speaking whatever is on their mind. However as you can see she doesn't have any sort of crazy hairstyle or really dressed messy, but she does have the other characteristics. She has the...

In the video, you can see that there is a gang of men beating up the one person training to become a boxer. The representations is that all young people are in some sort of gang, always causing some sort of mischief. Also the fact that the guy is sleeping on a mattress on the floor implies that he is poor or lower than working class; this suggests that the area he is in is the poorer parts of the country showing that people in that area are always fighting and ganging up on people. Furthermore you can see the stereotype where all the people in the gangs wear chains and have shaved heads and crazy hairstyles such as the Mohawk. This reinforces the stereotypes. Lastly there is the stereotype that all boxers were delinquents or were always getting into trouble. The boxer is getting beaten up which reinforces the stereotype. You can also see some representations of the female ballerina. Her dad is possibly rich from the shirt and tie he wears as well the fact that the house is a lot mo...
